Alliance Bank's comic strip challenge fosters financial literacy among students

KUALA LUMPUR: Alliance Bank, in its mission to inculcate 'Smart Financial Habits' among young Malaysians, concluded the third AEIOU Financial Comic Strip Challenge today.

This year, the challenge received approximately 10,520 submissions from primary school students.

Alliance Bank Group Chief Executive officer Joel Kornreich said the goal of this challenge was to reach out to more children and make an impact in their lives.

“AEIOU Challenge 3 embodies this passion with a refreshed format and wider reach. We were able to garner more participation this year with our efforts in visiting 42 schools nationwide and conducting financial education classes for 8,500 students.

"We are committed to fostering financial literacy among young Malaysians and we look forward to many more years of organising this challenge," he said.

The winner of the Best Edu-Comic category Goh Zheng Je, walked away with RM5,000, a trophy and certificate.

"I did not expect to win this challenge at all although I have put a lot of effort into completing the 8-page comic strip," he said, adding that he would spent an hour daily for a month to complete the comic apart from dividing his time to study for his Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah examination.

Goh said drawing is his hobby and it helps to ease his mind from the pressure of examination.

"I am grateful that my mother also supported my passion to participate in this challenge," said the student from SJK (C) Chi Man, Kuala Lumpur.

Meanwhile, Audience Favourite Edu-Comic category winner, Nurin Madihah Md Nazir said her inspiration to draw the comic was based on her younger sister.
