AIG Insurance pays out RM300k in interim payments to Penang, Kedah flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: RM300,000 in interim payments have been paid out to AIG Malaysia’s customers who were affected by the massive flash flood in Penang and Kedah, last week.

The payments were made to ease their customers’ burden, mainly those who are self-employed.

In a statement, AIG said it had received 70 claims applications from different sectors including printing, art museums, electrical, textiles, engineering, precision fabrication, motorcycles and home furnishings.

Its chief executive officer Antony Lee said this was part of the company’s social responsibility to its customers. He said the company wants its customers to understand that they are protected from catastrophes.

“It is in times like these that our customers need the assistance and we are echoing the general insurance industry’s and Bank Negara Malaysia’s initiatives to respond to these needs swiftly,” he said.

He said it was imperative companies and businesses understand the importance of protecting themselves against such untoward incidences.

“Out of a total of some 18,000 customers we have in these states, the claims were relatively low, which only goes to show how many were not protected against floods,” he said.
