M'sia working closely with Thailand to track down 15 Uighur fugitives

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will assist its Thai counterparts in tracking down 15 Uighur Muslims who escaped an immigration detention centre in Sadao on Monday.

The escapees are believed to have slipped into Malaysia.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the government has received information on the Uighurs from Thai authorities.

“(We are not certain that the Uighurs are here) but if they are, we know how to get them,” he said.

Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, added that the government has its own mechanism on how to track the escapees, which includes working closely with Aseanapol and the Interpol.
