Najib: Wives of BN elected reps 'integral to success'

MELAKA: The wives of Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives have a vital role to play, especially in times when the country is facing a crisis such as a natural disaster.

Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the assistance rendered by BN representatives’ wives was sometimes more personal than that of their husbands, and can touch the hearts of the people.

“If our respective wives go down to the ground with us, I believe their contributions to BN, such as assisting associations of single mothers and orphanages, would be invaluable,” he said on Saturday night when closing the Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives Wives Annual Sports Tournament.

Najib said the wives’ roles were also important as they take care of household matters and attend to the requirements of their respective husbands so that the latter can effectively implement their duties.

He said he agreed with what Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said, that the wives of elected representatives were integral parts of the successes of their husbands.

“Their wives are their true loyal companions... they cheer up their husbands, manage the household well and understand their roles in order for their husbands to become more successful.”

Separately, Najib commended the spirit shown by the wives at the annual games.

Meanwhile, Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the sports tournament was a platform to forge greater ties among members.

Rosmah, who is Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) president, said the annual sporting programme held here had yielded much success.

“I see that the programme has achieved its objective of fostering camaraderie and warmth during matches among wives of Barisan Nasional elected representatives throughout the country.

“I am proud to see that even after losing the games, players were hugging each other in the court,” she said in her speech at the dinner in conjunction with the closing ceremony of the games.

Rosmah said the tournament had not only created the spirit of sportsmanship, but also strengthened family spirit and harmony.

The next tournament will be held in Perlis next year.
