Eight-year-old girl leaps to her death after tiff with mom

JOHOR BARU: An eight year old girl died after jumping from the ninth floor of an apartment building in Jalan Skudai Lama here following a heated argument with her mother.

Johor Baru North police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said initial investigations revealed that the girl was reprimanded for making too much noise.

He said the girl proceeded to jump out of her bedroom window.

“We spoke with the victim’s family and was told that she was involved in a heated argument with her mother. She was told to stop making too much noise at home.

“Following the fight, the victim locked herself in her room before her mother noticed something was amiss. The victim did not respond to her mother’s instruction to open the locked door,” he said.

Taib said the girl’s mother only realised what had happened after neighbours recognised the girl, who was found lying motionless on the ground floor of the apartment, and alerted her.

“The victim’s mother forced herself into her room but it was too late. She saw her daughter’s lifeless body on the ground floor near the visitors’ car park,” said Mohd Taib when contacted by the New Straits Times today.

He added that the victim sustained severe head injuries in the 2.30pm incident and her body has been sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital for a post-mortem.

Taib said the case has been classified as sudden death pending further investigations.

Attempts to gather more details from the victim’s family was unsuccessful.
