AG's Report 2016: Selangor must practise prudent spending

SHAH ALAM: The Auditor's General Report 2016 Series 2 has recommended that the Selangor government spends its funds wisely and heighten its collection of loans or arrears to strengthen its financial position.

The report said the Selangor government must practise prudent spending and spend according to its needs.

Efforts, said the report, must be improved to collect Claimable Loans as well as revenue arrears, loan repayments and other debts from its state agencies and departments.

The report said this is necessary to ensure that the state's financial standing remains strong.

The report also recommended that heads of state agencies and departments are more hands-on in financial management.

It also said the heads of state agencies and departments must create a check-and-balance system, conduct continuous monitoring, spot checks and periodical evaluation of work completed by officers, including giving them training to improve their skills and abilities.

The report also said state agencies and departments need to increase the functional effectiveness of its internal audit units by among others, providing sufficient training and guidance and to prepare annual audits so that it can be conducted according to priority.
