Brace for strong winds, rough seas over Pahang, Sabah and Labuan today

KUALA LUMPUR: Strong winds and rough seas are expected over several areas in Malaysian waters today.

These areas include Pulau Layang-Layang in Sabah, Pulau Tioman in Pahang, as well as Reef South in Sarawak and Labuan.

Other areas set to experience similar conditions include Condor and Reef North (between Vietnam and Sabah waters), the Bunguran islands in Indonesia, and the Palawan islands in the Philippines.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement said the north-easterly winds are recorded around 40-60 km per hour with waves up to 4.5 metres and would pose a danger to small boats.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms are also expected to occur until tomorrow over the waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Sarawak, Labuan FT and Sabah (Interior & West Coast).

This condition may cause strong winds up to 50 km per hour and rough seas with waves of heights up to 3.5 metres (11 feet) and may prove dangerous to small crafts, recreational sea activities and sea sports.

The alert was issued by the department on its website at 8.15am today.
