Assemblyman's mother and her disabled son unharmed in attempted robbery

KUBANG PASU: An assembyman’s mother and her disabled son escaped unhurt in an attempted robbery at their house in Kampung Bendang Tok Leh, Jalan Sintok, Changlun here yesterday.

Basiah Shaari, 85, was at home with her son Amir Hamzah Japar, 49, when the incident occurred at 6.30pm.

Basiah, who is the mother of Bukit Kayu Hitam assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Zaini Japar, said she was in the toilet while Amir Hamzah was watching television when intruders broke into into the house.

“I only realised that they tried to rob us when Zaini’s aide who arrived to deliver my medication noticed four men coming out of the house and fleeing in a Honda car.

“We checked the house and found Amir Hamzah with his hands and legs tied and both eyes blindfolded,” she said.

Basiah said further checks showed that the robbers tried to break into two of six rooms in the house but no valuables were stolen.

She said Amir Hamzah told her that one of the intruders was armed with a pistol.

Meanwhile, district police deputy chief Superintendent Chan Keat Seang when contacted confirmed the case.

He said a report was lodged at 10.22pm last night at Changlun police station.

“We are investigating the case under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.
