IPOH: A housewife lost about RM855,000 to two Chinese nationals who misled and conned her into believing that they had a herbal tree that could cure every type of diseases.

Ipoh District Police chief ACP Mohd Ali Tamby said the victim, aged 65, lodged a police report yesterday claiming she was put under a spell and was cheated of her valuables.

The victim claimed that she was at the Menglembu market at around 10am on Nov 28 when she overheard two women talking about a herbal tree that could cure all diseases.

“The housewife was interested to see the tree and the women and two of their friends brought her in a silver car.

“The victim was told by the women that she had a chronic disease which must be treated immediately before it spread to other members of her family,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Ali said as a condition to treat the disease, the housewife must surrender her valuables to the women.

“The victim gave them cash and foreign currencies amounting to RM195,000; two Rolex watches worth about RM60,000 as well as a ring and gold necklace worth about RM600,000.

“She handed the valuables worth to the women in front of SJKC Wan Hwa 2, Menglembu,”he said.

Mohd Ali said after handing over the valuables, the victim was given a black plastic bag with an instruction that she could only open it after one month.

“The victim felt something was amiss and opened the plastic bag yesterday; she found it only contained fruits and fruit juice and made a police report,” he said.

He said there were no witnesses when the victim handed over her valuables.

She also had no idea about the car or its registration number, and only knew that the culprits were Chinese nationals.— BERNAMA
