1,000 Taman Tasek Jaya residents protest closure of junction

IPOH: Some 1,000 residents of Taman Tasek Jaya, here are furious over the closure of a junction at Tingkat Tasek Jaya 1 by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) since early last month.

The closure was done to avoid unwanted incidents from occurring on the road that is frequently used as a shortcut by heavy vehicles.

The residents’ spokesman, Asafali Mohd Salim,70, said the closure of the junction had made it harder for the residents to enter and exit the main road.

“This is not a solution. There are still other exits and entry routes that have been used as a shortcut since more than 10 years ago, especially by heavy vehicles, to get to the industrial zone through the housing area.

“MBI should find better solutions such as installing height restrictor safety barriers for routes limited to the entry of lightweight vehicles,” he told reporters after submitting a letter of protest to MBI here today.

Meanwhile, MBI councillor Aldrich Low Guo Nan said the letter would be submitted to its Traffic Control and Security Committee for further action.

He said Ipoh Mayor Datuk Zamri Man had ordered the closure of the junction following complaints received on heavy vehicles using the route through the housing area. — BERNAMA
