Selcat: Kg Sungai Yu land distribution not adhering to 'one family, one lot' requirement

SHAH ALAM: The distribution of land at Kampung Sungai Yu, Kuala Selangor to 175 applicants did not comply with the stipulated terms and conditions, said the state Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) today.

Its chairman Hannah Yeoh said following this, Selcat has urged Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali to approve its proposal to resolve the issue.

She said among the recommendations were to restructure the Land Selection Committee (Jawatankuasa Pemilihan Tanah Senarai Nama Penduduk) including the appointment of five state assemblymen as committee members.

The five assemblymen, she said, were Permatang assemblyman Datuk Sulaiman Razak, Jeram assemblyman Datuk Amiruddin Setro, ljok assemblyman Dr Idris Ahmad and Bukit Melawati assemblyman Jakiran Jakomah and Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Shamsuddin Lias.

“Selcat also urges the state government to cancel the land distribution to the applicants for failing to adhere to the 'one family, one lot' requirement.

“Selcat also wants the granting of the plot of lands to be suspended until the new Selection Committee is re-appointed and commissioned to review and validate the qualifications of all applicants," she told reporters, here today.

Yeoh said Selcat does not allow family members of the Selection Committee to be beneficiary of the Kampung Sungai Yu lands.

She said the committee also wanted the Kuala Selangor district land office to pay serious attention to this issue and prevent it from recurring.

“Selcat looks seriously at the land office’s negligence in the process of verifying and revising the personal details of the applicants. Such mistakes should not have occurred.”

Yeoh was urged to expedite investigations into this alleged land scandal, last month after the issue was raised by Sulaiman.

The original residents of Kampung Sungai Yu, who have lived in the area for decades, claimed that there has been misappropriation of land matters, including the awarding of more than one lot per family, reselling of plots by several individuals, as well as registering using non-existent MyKad.

Kuala Selangor Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim had earlier said the Sungai Yu scandal was a problem that sees certain sections of the community being marginalised.

He had questioned the credibility of state exco Ganabatirau Veraman, who allegedly listed 18 names of land recipients with non-existent MyKad numbers. It was also alleged that many of the recipients were not from Selangor.
