Sunny skies improve flood situation in Kemaman

KEMAMAN: Sunny skies and bright weather has improved the flood situation in the district.

The sole relief centre at Darul Iman Training Centre closed its operation at 4pm today.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said 280 people from 67 families had returned to their homes but the authorities were monitoring the situation as the monsoon season had not ended.

He said the Darul Iman Training Centre (DITC) relief centre in Telok Kalong, Kijal, was set up after houses were inundated by 0.5-metre deep floodwaters yesterday.

He said that the number of evacuees sheltered included 90 children and all victims were from Kampung Telok Kalong here.

Said said that four rivers in the district were recorded under the alert level - Sungai Cherul - Ban Ho bridge at 12.82 metres, Sungai Kemaman - Aor Putih bridge at 10.76 metres, Sungai Kemaman Rumah Pam Paya Panau at 2.19 metres and Sungai Tebak-Tebak bridge at 16.20 metres.
