Perlis religious school students' inventions shine at Taiwan expo

KANGAR: Three herbal-based products created by five students of Sekolah Menengah Agama Al-Maad in Kangar stole the spotlight at the recent Kaohsiung International Invention and Design Expo in Taiwan.

Their inventions, the Herbal Rodents Dispel (HRD), Smart Organic Fertiliser (SOFT) and Herbal Treatment Gel (HTG) bagged them two gold medals, a silver and a special award.

The products were the brainchild of Muhammad Firdaus Fadzly, 18; Bilal Mohd Asri, 17; Amir Ardani Sarudin, 16; Mohd Muttahhar Nazri, 16; and Afzal Hakim Mohd Sabri, 14.

Their teacher, Mohd Faizal Zainul, said the products were made using natural ingredients such as cinnamon, tapioca flour, coconut husk and red chili.

“The HRD and SOFT won gold medals, while the HTG received the silver medal.

“The HRD also received a special award from Taiwan as the products could help solve pest problems globally,” he said.

Faizal said 19 countries took part in the competition, which featured 360 innovative products.

Faizal expressed hope that the three products could be commercialised based on the achievements made by the students at the competition.
