MCPF to set up branches at all 28 police districts

SIBU: The Sarawak chapter of the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) will set up branches at all 28 police districts in the state.

Its chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee said the branches would look into the disciplinary problems among teenage schoolchildren, especially involving drug abuse.

“For the time being, we are setting up branches in the major towns of Miri, Limbang, Bintulu, Sibu, Betong and Kuching before going to other areas,” he said after chairing a meeting on the setting up of an MCPF branch at the Sibu police headquarters, here, on Monday.

Annuar, who is also state technological research and education assistant minister, said the committee at branch level would be chaired by the district police chief, and its members comprised community leaders, district education officers and school liaison officers.

On drug abuse among students in Sibu, Annuar, who is also Nangka state assemblyman, said the situation was not serious, but proactive measures should be taken to tackle the problem to prevent it from getting worse.

Apart from Sibu, MCPF set up a branch in Miri two weeks ago. — BERNAMA
