Sabah, Philippines authorities on hunt for at-large Abu Sayyaf member

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah police are in contact with Philippines security forces in a joint-effort to hunt down a member of the Abu Sayyaf group who is on the loose.

It is learnt that the suspect is amongst 11 members of the militant group – known separately as Two Brothers – which is active in kidnap-for-ransom (KFR) activities along Sabah's east coast.

Nine members of the group have been caught or killed by Philippines authorities, while the tenth – Komander Paliyak – was shot dead by police on Nov 4 in Silam waters off Lahad Datu.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Ramli Din said police are going all out to apprehend the remaining member.

He said this when met after the district-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at the state police headquarters here.

No exact details have been divulged on the wanted suspect, but Ramli was previously quoted as saying that he was active in robbery and KFR activities between 2014 and 2015.
