KL in Top 10 of 'top 100 cities' ranking

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur city has been ranked as among the top 10 in the Top 100 City Destinations Ranking 2017 report of Euromonitor International edition for the highest number of tourist arrivals.

The Tourism and Culture Ministry, in a statement today, said this was due to efforts by the government through the ministry in promoting Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur as among the world’s major tourist attractions.

It said the government’s decision to make Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Alor and areas surrounding Kuala Lumpur as modern and popular shopping destinations had resulted in a tremendous increase in the number of tourist arrivals.

These modern and popular shopping destinations, it said, were also on par with the world’s famous shopping malls such as Oxford Street in London, Shinjuku in Tokyo and Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong.

“Kuala Lumpur has become the city of tourist attractions where its well-known shopping destinations offers affordable prices, provide customer-friendly infrastructure and efficient public transport system.

“It (Kuala Lumpur) also offers other attractions such as Kuala Lumpur Tower, Petronas Twin Towers, the historical Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad as well as Bukit Nanas forest reserve."
