Funeral procession for triad member slain in JB held in full secrecy

JOHOR BARU: The funeral procession of the man killed by a rival triad gang at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi last Sunday, was held at the Nirvana Memorial Centre in Jalan Gelang Patah, today.

Scores of men decked in black suits dotted the compound as the man’s coffin was loaded onto a Mercedes Benz before the procession began its journey to Melaka for the burial.

A framed picture of the man, garlanded by a wreath, was mounted in front of the car.

The funeral ceremony of the 44-year old man actually began on Monday, with an open casket wake at the memorial centre.

Scores of visitors had thronged daily to the wake, which was held in full privacy. The event was closed off to the media.

Press members who was present this morning were only permitted to watch the proceedings from outside the memorial centre, as the hearse departed at 9.45am.

The man’s wife, a Vietnamese in her 20s, was seen escorting the hearse together with several other family members, who had chartered a bus to transport them to Melaka.

Around 30 guests comprising family members and friends came to pay their last respects to the victim.

Police have yet to disclose the man’s identity.

In the incident on Sunday, the man was attacked by four other people in another car, just as he was filling up the air in his car tyres.

The men stabbed him and when he fell, ran him over twice with their vehicle before speeding off.

The whole incident was recorded on video, which subsequently went viral.

The authorities attributed the incident to a fight between rival triads. The victim has been described as a prominent triad member.

Six people have so far been remanded over the case.
