SEPANG: Former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad gave the press corps the slip after touching down at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport here last night.
It is understood that Isa, who had just arrived from abroad, was ushered out via an alternative exit from the airport’s VIP lounge at about 11pm.
Members of the press had gathered at KLIA to get his comments on the controversy surrounding four parcels of land that previously belonged to Felda.
It was reported that ownership of the land in Jalan Semarak had been transferred to a private company in what was described as a “dubious deal” in 2015.
Isa was the Felda chairman from 2011 until January 2017; Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman from January 1, 2011 until June 19; and Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd (FIC) chairman from July 2013 until 2017.
Berita Harian yesterday reported that Felda is at grave risk of losing ownership of the strategic piece of land, worth RM270 million, which had been earmarked for the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) development project.
The project, once completed, would feature seven towers, including Felda’s iconic tower, to be known as KLVC Tower1A.
BH’s search on Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) web portal showed that KLVC Tower 1A had been approved for construction, alongside a 68-floor office building.
The office complex would feature 59 floors of office space, a two-floor office podium including parking lots, a six-floor car park, a two-storey underground car park, a rooftop garden, as well as a helipad.
Sources told BH that ownership transfer of the land took place when FIC appointed a local company as its main developer on June 3, 2014, and it was granted full power of attorney to develop the land.
