Christian group joins Palestine solidarity rally in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA: United States President Donald Trump has misused the Christian faith and the Bible to justify his actions, including recognising Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

In saying this, the Association of Nexgen Christians of Malaysia (Ancom) advisor Jason Leong said Trump's agenda was more politically-driven and not biblically.

“”We view this as part of his political agenda and domestic political positioning.

“Therefore, we reject the use of the Bible to legitimise or support political options that are based upon injustice.

“As a result, we are very concerned about the devastating consequences to the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict," he added.

Leong said claiming Jerusalem as the capital for one people not only damages hope for peace between Israeli and Palestinians but deepens religious tension among Muslims, Jews and Christians.

Leong and 40 other members of Ancom had gathered as early as 11am to show their disagreement on US threats as well as to support others who participated in the rally, adding that rally is not only for Muslims.

"Many are unaware that there are Palestinian Christians who are also affected by Trump's move.

"This is an issue of humanity where the peace and harmony of the people are at stake," he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) senior vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, should support the call against the US' decision on Jerusalem.

"This is not about a religion but it involves the human race.

"Through this solidarity rally, I hope it will attract international attention and support," he added.
