Putrajaya International Security Dialogue to address counter-terrorism efforts

PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya International Security Dialogue 2018, to be held on Jan 5-6, will be the benchmark which Malaysia sets itself towards remaining at the forefront in the development of ideas in counter-terrorism and tackling security threats.

Organised by the Home Ministry in collaboration with the Rabitah Al-Alami Al-Islami (World Muslim League), the conference will carry the theme "Wisdom and Moderation in Countering Terrorism".

The Home Ministry, in a statement today, said ministers and deputy ministers from 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom, France and Indonesia are expected to present the stands of their respective nations.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on the second day of the dialogue, which will feature four plenary sessions.

The plenary sessions will feature the topics: Islam as a means of moderation and security; together we fight terrorism; the role of religion in inculcating values and moderation; and countering terrorism with wisdom and humanity.

The PISD is expected to be attended by over 1,000 senior diplomats and high commissioners based in Kuala Lumpur, representatives of non-governmental organisations, academics, senior government officials and students.

The Home Ministry said the international dialogue is aimed at promoting Malaysia as a modern and progressive nation which is at the forefront of counter-terrorism and anti-extremism efforts.

All resolutions and findings are expected to drive international cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts.
