A course for the "ladies"

HULU TERENGGANU: The Terengganu government is holding a course for transvestites in the state with the hope of returning them “to the right path”.

State Communications, Multimedia and Special Functions Committee chairman Ghazali Taib said a census would be conducted beginning next month to determine their numbers.

“It will be conducted with the cooperation of the Village Development and Security Committee, police and the State Islamic religious and Malay Customs Council,” he told Bernama after presenting school aid under the ‘Back to School’ programme here today. which was jointly organised by the Federation of Peninsula Malay Students (GPMS).

Also present was Terengganu GPMS president Tengku Haphiz Datuk Tengku Putera and Hulu Terengganu Education officer Jalaluddin Ismail.

Ghazali, who is Ajil assemblyman said the course would be held as part of the efforts to address issues of transvestites.

He said this followed a media report which claimed an area at Flat Petani, in the outskirts of Kuala Terengganu, becoming a popular haunt for transvestites. –BERNAMA
