US embassy highlights US-Malaysia relations in New Year video

KUALA LUMPUR: United States Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir looks back at the United States-Malaysia relations in a video published by the embassy.

The one-minute video shows the ambassador addressing its viewers on what has happened in the past 12 months since she arrived in the country.

“Malaysia celebrated six decades of independence and 60 years of US-Malaysia relations.

“We organised historic visits in Washington and Kuala Lumpur.

“We promoted an open business climate in Malaysia and supported efforts to (preserve) Malaysia’s natural resources and wildlife,” she said to the background of various images of significant events and Malaysian culture.

Lakhdhir said their 100 English Teaching Assistants had built lasting relationships around the country. In January another 100 were expected to arrive.

Lakhdhir said she had travelled to almost every state in Malaysia.

“I especially enjoyed the beauty and hospitality of Sabah and Sarawak and the vibrant economy of Penang, with its many American firms.

“To those states I haven’t visited, I’m coming soon,” she said.

She ended the video with a New Year’s wish in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.

“Happy New Year and Selamat Tahun Baru,” she said.

Among the photos that were displayed in the background included United State’s secretary of state Rex Tillerson with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in Kuala Lumpur, United States President Donald Trump with Najib at the White House, the Verdezyne and Sime Darby ground breaking event in Johor Baru and Lakhdhir at the Borneo Elephant Sanctuary in Sabah.
