Rescuers recover bodies of drowned teenagers at Sungai Pedas

REMBAU: The bodies of two of the three teenagers, who were feared drowned yesterday, have been found at Sungai Pedas near Kampung Merbau 9, this morning.

State Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said, the body of the two victims, Muhammad Syafiq Rosli, 15, and Muhamad Alis M Sadri, 15, were found at 10.10am and 10.56am respectively.

It was reported last night that the body of the first victim, Muhammad Iqqmal Haziq Muhammad Nozili, 12 was found at 10.03pm.

Meanwhile, Norazam said checks showed the three victims went to the river at 4pm yesterday to fish and swim with another friend, Haikal Najmi Azhar, 15, who survived the incident.

"While Muhammad Iqqmal was struggling in the water, Muhamad Alis and Muhammad Syafiq tried to save him," he said.

He said their attempt failed and all of them ended up being swept away and drowned.

"The search and rescue operation started at 10pm last night, assisted by police and the Civil Defence Force.

"All three victims were found about two meters from the location where they were last seen," he said today.

Also present was Rembau District Acting police chief Superitendent Nazruel Ekram Abu Shari.

Norazam said the bodies had been taken to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Seremban for a post-mortem.
