Johari also encouraged former trainees to sign up for the National Service Volunteer Brigade (NSVB) to serve the nation through volunteer programmes.

He said to date, a total of 323,314 NS alumni had register with the brigade.

"The good thing about this brigade is that the alumni will be trained in handling relief efforts in natural disasters situation and we want them to excel in all aspects similar to the capability of volunteers in developed nations.

"It will be great if we could deploy more of NS alumni for natural disaster missions such as the flood disaster-hit area as it will be a good exposure for them," he said.

Johari said the NS 2.0 has received an overwhelming response from parents following transformation carried out by the ministry on the NS programme.

"As compared to the previous NS, the NS 2.0 is much more attractive as we have overhauled almost every aspect including the modules, trainers, facility and even integrated vocational and technical training elements.

"We have received many inquiries from parents who are interested to send their children for the NS and this is a good sign because we want the NS alumni to become agents for the nation development and unity.
