Man found drowned at waterfall in Batang Kali

KUALA LUMPUR: A trip for four friends to the Lata Kedondong waterfall near Batang Kali ended in tragedy when one of them drowned after falling into the water.

The four, in their 20s, had arrived at the waterfall at 2pm and about an hour later, one of them, 26-year-old Muhammad Akmal Jamal, slipped and fell into the water.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations management officer Alimaddia Bukri said the victim’s friends called the department at 3.38pm to seek help.

A search and rescue (SAR) team comprising police, firemen, the department’s water rescue unit, civil defence force and members of the public joined forces to help locate the missing victim.

“The team managed to pinpoint the victim’s location at 6.10pm and after some 15 minutes later, they managed to pull the remains of the victim out of the water,” he said.

The victim’s remains were handed over to the police for further action.
