Stale spaghetti causes food poisoning at MRSM Grik

IPOH: Twenty-three students of the Mara Junior Science College in Grik, including 12 girls, suffered food poisoning after consuming what is believed to have been stale spaghetti on Jan 7.

Perak Health, Public Transport, Non Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the victims showed mild symptoms and were given outpatient treatment.

“The cause of the incident which was reported to us at 12.45pm (on Jan 8) could be the consumption of spaghetti with minced meat served as dinner (the previous night). The case is still being investigated by the Hulu Perak Health Department.

“The hostel’s kitchen has been ordered closed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 pending the completion of the investigation,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile the department’s medical personnel had conducted health education and prevention programme for the students and staff of the college following the incident.

A total of 444 students are enrolled in the college.
