Haphazard parking near KLIA will see motorists hit with maximum fine, vehicles towed

SHAH ALAM: Police have warned motorists that their vehicles will be towed and they will be slapped with a maximum RM300 summons if they continue to park illegally by the roadside near Kuala Lumpur International Airport and klia2.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department will carry out enforcement aggressively as there were still motorists parking haphazardly, without any regard for the safety of others.

“Malaysia Airports Bhd provides a parking area for free to motorists who are waiting or picking up passengers. However, many still wait by the roadside, especially near petrol stations. Those wanting to head to the airport should use the facilities provided by MAB as there is not only a parking area but also a surau and a food court.

“I have given a directive for my men to heighten enforcement by issuing summonses and to monitor the situation by installing closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) there to ensure that no motorists park haphazardly and affect the safety of others.

“Aside from issuing summonses against motorists waiting by the roadside, any vehicle that is parked there will be towed to the police station.

“A maximum RM300 summons will be slapped against the owner for the offence of obstructing traffic and parking illegally.” he said following the state police headquarters’ monthly assembly.

Mazlan added that in the past year, some 30 summonses were issued daily to traffic offenders involving vehicles and motorists of all sorts, such as taxi drivers, e-hailing services drivers and private car owners.
