Development blueprint aims to turn Labuan into smart, sustainable island city

LABUAN: The Labuan Development Blueprint 2030, which will be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak tomorrow, is expected to chart positive growth for Labuan people.

Labuan Financial Services Authority corporate affairs director Yon Zahimah Ibrahim said the blueprint comprises of initiatives and plans to transform Labuan into a smart and sustainable island city.

“It is a holistic and comprehensive plan, driven by economics drivers to chart the positive growth for Labuan people.

“Under the Labuan Blueprint, the education, tourism and public services sectors will be nurtured and stimulated to create further growth in building their own linkages and clusters while the financial and oil and gas sectors will be strengthened deeper,” she said during a media briefing here.

Yon added that the transformation plan will also make the island a well-integrated economic regional hub to better serve the business, investment and intermediation needs of the region including East Malaysia and Asian markets.

“As the subset of the Blueprint, Labuan International Business and Financial Centre’s transformation plan reflects and facilitates the national commitment of government to elevate the economic stature of Labuan to become an integral growth component of the nation’s economy.”

The launching of the Blueprint will be the kick-off of Najib’s two days visit here and in Sabah.

After the programme at Labuan square here, he is expected to have a walkabout at Donggongon weekly market in Penampang and dinner with Barisan Nasional component parties leaders in Kota Kinabalu.

On Friday, he will go to Nabawan for the launching of health clinic and head to Kota Marudu for prayer, lunch with parties leaders and visits a school in the district.
