PM arrives in Labuan to launch Labuan Development Blueprint 2030

LABUAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has arrived at Dataran Labuan here to launch the Labuan Development Blueprint 2030, which has identified key growth drivers to spur the Federal Territory's development.

On hand to receive him were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Raymond Tan Shu Kiah who is representing Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, and Labuan Member of Parliament Datuk Rozman Datuk Isli.

Accompanying Najib were Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor; Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar; and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

Labuan is already on track to becoming a premier regional financial centre, duty-free island and tourism destination – but under the Blueprint, its financial, as well as oil and gas sectors, will be strengthened.

The Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC) Transformation Plan is also part of an effort to promote the island as the preferred mid-shore financial centre for the Asia-Pacific region.

Labuan’s education, tourism and public services sectors already have strong foundations, but the “trickling down” effect still has to be nurtured.

The logistics sector is also seen as a long-term growth driver, especially as Labuan's port and airport's external connectivity grows.
