Let court decide on undersea tunnel case, says Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: Despite numerous allegations of malfeasance by the state opposition parties on the controversial undersea tunnel project, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has decided to let the court clear the issue.

This comes after Penang Barisan Nasional chairman Teng Chang Yeow said Guan Eng had lied while commenting on the project, prompting the latter to take legal action.

Earlier today, Teng said Guan Eng had lied on at least four issues in relation to the proposed undersea tunnel project.

Guan Eng, however, reiterated his stand that not a single cent was paid to the contractor for the multi-billion project.

“Everything was done in open tender, everything was transparent, that was why we openly challenged the critics to prove the allegations and take legal action.

“He (Teng) alleged that Lim Hock Seng (Works, Transportation and Utilities Committee chairman) had said that (payment was made for the undersea tunnel project), but the latter has refuted the claim. Hence, this will be brought to the court to clear the issue once and for all,” he said in a press conference today.

The controversial undersea tunnel and three paired roads project is currently the subject of investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC has raided several state government offices in Komtar three times last week.

Also raided were several companies linked to the project. Two Datuks have been remanded to facilitate investigations.
