Pahang almost fully recovered from floods

KUANTAN: The flood situation in Raub is improving, with only 64 victims from 21 families remaining at three relief centres as of 11am today, compared to 78 people last night.

State Civil Defence Force director Colonel Zainal Yusoff said that two relief centres in Cheroh and Kampung Sengkela were closed this morning after all the evacuees returned home.

He said that 18 people from six families are still seeking shelter at the Kuala Semantan mosque, Kampung Ulu Sungai mosque (42), and Kampung Batu Talam Umno Hall (four).

"The weather has improved and Sungai Lipis in Batu Malim is slowly returning to its normal level.

"Most of the villagers have returned to their homes to conduct a clean-up and are expected to move back in during the weekend," he said.

Zainal added that the flash floods were the result of continuous heavy rain which lashed several low-lying villages on Wednesday night.

Pekan, which was the worst-hit district, completely recovered from the monsoon floods on Thursday.
