Lewd dangdut performances under investigation

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) is investigating a report by Kampung Telari villagers on a supposedly sexually-charged dangdut dances held at the village.

Its commissioner, Datuk Wan Ismail Sahaimi Wan Omar said the department had received several complaints on the existence of a place which allegedly offered provocative 'dangdut' performances.

"We have received reports from villagers and the matter is under investigation," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

A Bernama check revealed that the three-hour performances which start at 9pm daily, featured four provocatively dressed female singers belting out sexually charged songs, while dancing in a lewd manner.

A resident who wanted to remain anonymous said the performances would be held two to three times a week with no fixed schedule.

"As villagers, we have told them off on several occasions but they ignored us and said their performances were carried out on private land and we could not do anything.

"The singers are mostly from neighbouring Kelantan, and they are paid about RM400 each for a night’s performance," he told Bernama.
