ALOR STAR: Kedah Immigration Department rounded up 21 illegal workers at two construction sites in Jalan Langgar here today.
Its director Zuhair Jamaludin said four undocumented migrants were arrested at the first location while the rest were picked up at the second construction site.
Those detained were from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand.
“Our team inspected 84 foreign workers at the two sites but only 21 of them were found to have misused their social visit passes.
“In bid to escape arrest, some of them fled the scene by wading through water-filled paddy field nearby,” he said.
Zuhair said all the workers, aged between 23 and 41, were taken to the department’s lock-up for processing before being taken to the Belantik Immigration Detention Depot in Sik.
