RM13 mil allocated to improve GOF barracks

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today announced a RM13 million allocation to swiftly upgrade and improve accommodations and facilities at the General Operations Force barracks here.

Zahid, who is also Home Minister, made the announcement following a working visit to the barracks, accompanied by Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun and Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Governmenr Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Zahid said the Home Ministry has been instructed to swiftly look into all police accomodations, particularly those in dire need of upgrading and improvements.

He said improvements will be made to ensure not just the welfare of police, but their families, are taken care of.

"The process will be conducted in stages. A budget has been allocated by the government as we have found that some police accomodations are in severely run down condition," said Zahid.

For the Cheras General Operations Force Barracks, Zahid said the upgrading would cover accomodation units, the mosque, recreational facilities and the school for children.

On another note, Zahid announced that the Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) campus currently under construction in Bagan Datoh, will be specifically for children of police personnel.
