Landslide at Cameron Highlands-Sungai Koyan road

KUANTAN: Heavy rains over the past few days triggered a landslide on the Cameron Highlands-Sungai Koyan road at 2.30pm this afternoon.

District police chief Superintendent Azry Akmar Ayob advised members of the public to exercise caution when travelling along the road, especially at night.

“Officers from the Sungai Koyan police station were dispatched to the scene and have put up signages and barricade tapes near the area,” he said when contacted today.

Azry added that no loss of life or injury was reported, and that no vehicles were involved in the incident.

He said police have contacted the district Public Works Department to repair the damaged road.

“The incident was also reported to Roadcare Sdn Bhd, which will examine the road’s structural integrity and determine if vehicles can pass through safely.”

However, he said, one lane leading towards Cameron Highlands would remain open while another lane leading to Kuala Lipis would be closed until further notice.

It is understood that the landslide was triggered by heavy rains over the past few days.
