TANJUNG MALIM: A total of 295 students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Proton City started their first school session here this morning.

The secondary school was officially opened today, after it was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Saturday at the National Automotive Cluster (NAC) event.

The RM29.9 million school, built in 2016, and can also accommodate about 1,200 students. It is equipped with sophisticated infrastructure and facilities.

State Women Development, Family, Community Welfare, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim officiated the school session and school song while the school badge was launched by state Education Department director Datuk Mat Lazim Idris.

Also present were Muallim district education officer Saipol Baharin Sulaiman and the school's principal, Mohammad Abdul Aziz Mohd Salleh.

Rusnah said: "I hope the facilities at this school, especially the university-level library, will benefit the students and teachers to instil reading habits.

"The school's background is breathtaking too, as it is closed to the Titiwangsa Range. Such view will help to create a conducive learning and teaching session," she said.

"Previously, most of the parents here had to send their children to schools in Tanjung Malim which located about 8 kilometres from here, but now we have SMK Proton City." she said in her speech.
