Hundreds throng Penang's Taman Segar for CNY hot sales

BUTTERWORTH: Hundreds of shoppers thronged the MCA-organised Bagan Parliamentary grand sale programme, held in conjunction with the forthcoming Chinese New Year celebration, at Taman Segar here today.

Among those who did not miss the opportunity was 63-year-old Lim Seng Choon, who came with her six children from Mak Mandin, to buy daily necessities to be used for CNY next week.

"Shopping here definitely helped save my money. I get to buy things much cheaper than outside

"Such programmes should be held regularly to ease the burden of the people," she said.

Also spotted among the crowd was Juliana Jaafar, 36, who said that she travelled all the way from Penanti so as not to miss the opportunity to grab the items sold at bargainable price.

The housewife, who came as early as 9am with her two children, said the prices of goods sold at the event were far cheaper than the ones at the market.

She said with a mere RM16, she managed to buy groceries for two days.

"I was told about this programme by my neighbour in Penanti. I had initially planned to go to the market to buy the groceries this weekend.

"Thankfully, I was told about this. I did not think twice and came all the way here. I am really satisfied with this and hope to see more of it," she said.

Penang MCA secretary, who is also the party's Bagan division secretary, Dr Tan Chuan Hong, said that organising such programmes was testament that Barisan Nasional (BN) cares about the needs of the people.

"At least 30 types of daily necessities are sold at affordable and bargainable price.

"This will help ease the burden of the people, especially the Chinese, who will be busy stocking up their homes for the Chinese New Year." he added.
