Ex – NSTP photographer receives contribution from PM

SEREMBAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today presented a personal contribution to former New Straits Times Press (NSTP) photographer, Mohd Hamzah Md Som, 52, who suffered a stroke two months ago.

The contribution was presented by the prime minister's press secretary Datuk Akmar Hisham Mokhles to Mohd Hamzah and his wife, Zaida Sabtu, 49, during a visit to their home in Taman Kobena, Senawang here.

Akmar said the contribution was from the prime minister to help ease the burden on Mohd Hamzah’s family, especially for his treatment.

“We hope this will help him in his treatment. We pray for his speedy recovery,” he said.

Also present was Rasah UMNO division deputy chief, Datuk Abdul Karim Mustafa.

For Zaida, the contribution was very much appreciated by her family and she was also grateful by the concern showed by the prime minister.

“My husband is still undergoing physiotherapy treatment at Senawang health clinic and Tuanku Jaafar Hospital twice a week besides consuming medicine prescribed by the doctor.

“He has been making progress. However, his right arm is still weak,” she said.

Looking positive and cheerful, Mohd Hamzah, who was a former NSTP photographer from 1984 to 2005 before joining Bernama news agency said he was moved by the concern showed by the prime minister.

“I am motivated to get back to work again, to join my other colleagues covering the upcoming 14th general election. I hope I will be able to join and contribute my expertise soon,” he said.

Throughout his career, Mohd Hamzah had covered various important events involving the prime minister, inside and outside of the country.

A picture of Najib and former US President, Barack Obama which was captured by Mohd Hamzah during the latter’s visit to the country, was also used in Pos Malaysia limited special commemorative cover and stamp which was launched on April 2014.
