AirAsia advises travellers to self check-in, arrive early, ahead of Chinese New Year holidays

SEPANG: In light with the Chinese New Year festive season, AirAsia and AirAsia X have reminded passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than their scheduled departure time.

They should arrive at least three hours prior to scheduled time of departure for AirAsia (AK) flights and four hours earlier for AirAsia X (D7) flights.

This will give the passengers ample time to clear all travel formalities and avoid the expected surge of travellers during the holiday period.

In a statement today, AirAsia said that it is advisable for guests to perform self check-in via web, mobile or kiosk services and print the boarding passes in advance for a smoother experience at the airport.

“These self services are available 14 days and up to one hour prior to departure for all AirAsia flights and up to four hours prior to departure for all AirAsia X flights.”

According to AirAsia, its self check-in and self bag tag services are fully operational across all airports in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, self bag drop is available at the Senai International Airport, Kuching International Airport, Langkawi International Airport, Kota Kinabalu International Airport, Miri Airport, Tawau Airport, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Penang International Airport, and Sibu Airport.

AirAsia said guests travelling to and from Johor Baru can enjoy a seamless travel experience without having to present any travel documents with Asia’s first airport facial recognition system, Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (FACES), at the Senai International Airport.

It added that FACES is available for guests aged 18 and above. A one-time enrolment process can be done at the dedicated enrolment kiosk at the check-in area.

Guests simply have to place their MyKad or chip-enabled passport in the document reader and face the camera to create their biometric token.

“The system is currently only available for selected flights from Johor Baru to Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Macau.”

To all passengers travelling with baggage, the airline reminded that baggage drop counters will close 60 minutes before flight departure for all AirAsia and AirAsia X flights.

“As congestion is expected at the security scanning, baggage clearance and immigration checkpoints, it is best to complete baggage drop and proceed to the boarding gate as early as possible.”

Passengers with group booking, reduced mobility or with special needs are allowed to check-in at the counter and thus, should allocated more time to clear all travelling formalities.
