Eight-year-old wins RM10,000 from PTPTN contest

JELI: An assistant engineer at the Public Works Department here was on cloud nine after his eight-year-old son was chosen as November’s winner for the ‘Cabutan Wow! 20 Tahun’ contest organised by the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN).

Nik Rokman Nik Li, 36 said he did not expect his son, Nik Muhamad Syahrulhamizan to win RM10,000 just by investing in the 1Malaysia National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN1M) for his son’s education.

He said the win meant a lot to his family as the money will go towards his son’s education when he grows up.

“Actually I opened the education saving fund for my son when he was just two years old, back in 2012. However, today we received this piece of good news, I feel really blessed,” he said, adding that he normally contributes RM150 every two months once to his son’s account.

He said it is a great thing for his son to be chosen because there are about three million account holders in total nationwide.

The father told this to reporters when met at the contest’s prize giving ceremony at SK Batu Melintang here yesterday.

Kuala Balah state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Aziz Derashid and PTPTN senior general manager Abdul Ghaffar Yusop were present at the event.

Nik Rokman also took the opportunity to encourage parents to consider the SSPN1M savings plan for their children so that when the time comes, they will be financially prepared for their children’s education needs.
