Govt will look into request from Langkawi's Indian community [NSTTV]

LANGKAWI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak assured the Indian community here today that the Kedah Barisan Nasional will fulfill the community’s requests in Langkawi.

He said though the matter is under the jurisdiction of the state government, he had already discussed the community’s request with Kedah Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

“I had already discussed the matter with the Menteri Besar (Ahmad Bashah) and he had given his assurance and support to the request to the requests of the Indian community in Langkawi,” he said at the “Teh Tarik Session” with the Indian community at the Langkawi MIC Hall in Taman Sungai Raya here today.

Najib said the requests from the Indian community involved the need of land gazzetement for one temple, land requested for another temple as well as land to resettle the community in Langkawi.

The Prime Minister assured that the Indian community’s request on the three matters would be resolved.

The Indian community in the famed tourist island is seeking to gazette an existing land at Taman Sungai Raya for the Sri Mahamariaman temple and is also requesting land for the Sri Subramaniar Temple.

In addition they are also seeking the government’s assistance to allocate a 11.34 hectare land for the resttlement of the community in the island.

In his speech earlier, Langkawi MIC Division Chief V.Nagaiah conveyed the Indian community’s two requests.

Some 1,000 Indian community members attended the event which also saw the presence of Bashah, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Langkawi Member of Parliament, Datuk Ir Nawawi Ahmad and Kedah MIC chairman Datuk Jaspal Singh.

At the event, Najib handed over to the Indian community aid from Barakah kedah, comprising daily essential items.
