Second body recovered in Sg Buloh drowning tragedy

SUNGAI BULOH: The body of a second victim has been recovered from a drowning incident involving six people at Sungai Gasi, near the Paya Jaras army camp here this morning.

A Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the victim was found by a search and rescue (SAR) team at 1.26am, less than 1km away from where the first body was recovered.

“Two SAR teams have arrived at the river near Saujana Utama in Puncak Alam, some 20km from where the incident occurred.

“The SAR operation will be carried out all the way to Kuala Selangor and several checkpoints have been established at Merbau Sempak, the Kubu Gajah bridge, as well as Bestari Jaya,” he told reporters today.

The first victim’s body was found at 9.50pm yesterday night, some 8.2km from where the victims were first swept away.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Azmi Osman is expected to hold a press conference at 9am today.

It was initially reported that seven people had been swept away by strong currents, believed to be triggered by a flash flood, at 5.30pm as they were fishing at the river this evening. The authorities later revised the figure to six.
