NHRAP mobile app will be available for all come April

PUTRAJAYA: The public can start downloading the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) mobile application, starting April.

This was announced by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who stated that the app would be a platform for the people to submit complaints and views on the NHRAP.

"The app is a show of transparency. We do not want to leave the people hanging not knowing where they can lodge complaints or share views on," she told reporters after the launch of the NHRAP by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

She added the Malaysia's NHRAP was developed with 294 action plans, comprising 83 key issues.

"This is a living document. It is not final. It is dynamic and can change with accordance to needs," said Azalina.

She also said the launch of NHRAP signals that Malaysia and its leaders have placed human rights as one of their main priorities.

On the high level committee (HLC) to monitor the execution of the action plan, she said the chairman has yet to be appointed.

"Once the appointment has been made, the HLC can start having their meetings and monitor the NHRAP."

Azalina also said it was important to have an independent body to collect and analyse feedbacks from the public.

To a question, she said, the NHRAP inspires to turn this country into a kinder Malaysia, reflecting the prime minister's own vision regarding the action plan.

The NHRAP has outlined five cores – civil and political rights; economic, social and cultural rights; rights of vulnerable groups; rights of the indigenous; and international obligations.
