Felda to get back Jalan Semarak land next week

KLUANG: Felda will officially receive it's land in Jalan Semarak which is worth RM270 million next week.

Its chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the return of the land's ownership to Felda was proof of the agency's continuous commitment in safeguarding its assets as well as the settlers' welfare.

"Insya Allah, Felda will get back the Jalan Semarak land officially next week.

"The process of transferring the land ownership to Felda is being conducted this week and is expected to be completed soon. We already have all the necessary signatures.

"We expect by Monday next week everything will be completed and the land grant will be back under Felda's name," said Shahrir.

He was speaking to the media after the launch of 'Karnival Orang FELDA Sembrong Kita' in Felda Ulu Belitong here.

The event was launched by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, who is also Sembrong member of Parliament.

In January, it was reported that Felda had received back the land in Jalan Semarak without cost from the developer of the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project, Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd (SPSB).

The controversy involving the land rose after it was reported that Felda was at risk of losing the land, which was earmarked for the development of KLVC, through dubious transfer transactions since 2015.

The ownership transfer was believed to have happened when Felda Investment Corp Sdn Bhd (FIC) appointed a local company as the main developer on June 3, 2014, and was given a letter granting it full power of attorney on the land.

Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was Felda chairman from 2011 until January 2017; Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) chairman from January 1, 2011, until June 19 last year and FIC chairman since it was established on July 2, 2013, until 2017.

In another matter, Shahrir said the police and internal investigation on the case was still on-going even though the land's ownership had returned to Felda.

"This is because the police's investigation and our internal inquiry found that there are dubious elements in the transaction," said Shahrir.
