MUET receives Cambridge recognition, to spread wings abroad [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian University English Test (MUET) will spread its wings abroad after it received international recognition from Cambridge English, United Kingdom.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said Malaysian Examination Council (MEC) had taken a proactive measure that allows MUET to be aligned with the Common European Framework Reference (CEFR), an international standard for describing language ability.

"MUET is the brain child of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when he was the education minister, and it has been implemented for the past 20 years.

"With the alignment to CEFR, MUET can now enter the international market and become one of Malaysian products that we should be proud of," he said.

Mahdzir was speaking at a press conference after the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) best schools and best students award ceremony, here.

He said several countries such as Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka had shown their interest to use MUET for their students.

At the event, MEC chairman Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak received the MUET recognition certificate from Cambridge English research and international development head Dr Hanan Khalifa, and was witnessed by Mahdzir.

On the STPM results, Mahdzir said he was satisfied with the overall performances.
