Mobile app using real time data soon to help you plan your trips using public transportation

KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will soon come up with a “journey planner” application to make it easier for travelers to plan out their entire journey.

The app, which has yet to be given a name, is expected to be ready by the middle of the year.

SPAD chief executive officer Azharuddin Mat Sah said the idea behind the app was to encourage people to use public transportation when traveling anywhere.

“Among the features is the ability to choose any mode of transport to get from Point A to Point B, with estimated costs and time needed included. It uses real time data from operators such as KTMB and bus companies,” he said.

Azharuddin was speaking at a media briefing on the 2017 Land Public Transportation Report Card.

He said the app would be able to tell users the best mode of transportation available based on the real time data.

“This app is being developed by the NKRA (National Key Results Areas) Division of SPAD for Android and iOS, with the cooperation of public transportation operators, especially those in the Klang Valley.

“We believe that with real time data information at one’s fingertips, we can build up the confidence of people in our public transportation system,” he said. — Report by Fahmy Azril Rosli, Nur Lela Zulkipli dan Nor Ain Radhi
