No suspension for Wan Ahmad Najmuddin: DPM [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, who is being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), will not be suspended or go on leave.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Wan Ahmad Najmuddin can continue carrying out his duties as per normal.

"He had (satisfactorily clarified the matter of) his bank account in Australia.

"(Wan Ahmad Najmuddin) should stay and is not required to go on leave," he told reporters at a press conference after attending the ministry's monthly assemby and Excellence Award ceremony.

On Tuesday, the MACC opened an investigation paper on Wan Ahmad Najmuddin after his Australian bank account, which contains a high amount of structured deposits, was frozen by local authorities.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the Australian Federal Police had frozen A$320,000 (RM975,792), which was transferred without compliance with Australian laws into Wan Ahmad Najmuddin’s Australian Commonwealth Bank account in 2016.

However, on Friday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Bukit Aman, which had been made aware of the account; and its Integrity and Standard Compliance Department had conducted an internal inquiry and cleared Wan Ahmad Najmuddin of any wrongdoing.

He said Wan Ahmad Najmuddin was able to provide documents proving that the funds originated from the sale of his house in Shah Alam, which was then worth RM700,000.
