Felda gets its land back

KUALA LUMPUR: Felda has recovered all 16 lots in Jalan Semarak that was given to a private developer for the Kuala Lumpur Vertical City (KLVC) project.

Felda Chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad announced that the lots were registered back to its name on March 2 to March 8 by the developer Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd (SPSB).

He also stressed that all the 16 lots - said to be worth about RM270 million, were free of encumbrances.

He cited Pandan Member of Parliament Rafizi Ramli's statement of Jan 8 whose search also indicated as much.

"I am not citing my own search but this is his search," he said.

He said a special consultative committee had been appointed to improve the master developers agreement which was signed by Felda Investment Corporation Bhd and SPSB in 2014.

He said the special committee would have representatives from Felda, developer and the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) under the Prime Minister’s Department.

He said UKAS would be in the committee because they had expertise in the development of government land.

The KLVC project involves 24 lots with a land area of 8.09 had been revalued by the Valuation and Property Services Department.

Berita Harian, in an exclusive report late last year, broke the story that Felda was at risk of losing ownership of the land worth more than RM200 million following what had been described as a “dubious deal” in 2015.

The plots of land, which had been earmarked for the KLVC development project, will feature seven towers.

The ownership transfer of the land took place when FIC appointed SPSB as its main developer on June 3, 2014, and granted the company full power of attorney to develop the land.
