GERIK: Three people were killed and one seriously injured in an accident involving two superbikes and a Perodua Bezza at Km24.2 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) yesterday.

The deceased have been identified as car driver Ahmad Shadrul Amin Mohd Sauki, 22, from Besut, Terengganu; and a motorcycle rider whose identity has yet to be ascertained. Both died at the scene in the 4pm incident.

The third casualty – Mohd Rosli Hussin from Machang, Kelantan – died about three hours later while receiving treatment at the Gerik Hospital.

The seriously injured was identified as Muhamad Aziman Mahamood, from Machang, Kelantan, who was a passenger in the Bezza. He is currently being treated at the Taiping Hospital.

Aziman and Ahmad Shadrul were students at an institute of higher learning.

According to Gerik district police chief Supt Ismail Che Isa, the incident occurred when the Bezza, which was heading towards Gerik, grazed one of the superbikes as it was navigating a bend on a slope. The superbikes were heading in the opposite direction.

“The second (superbike tried to avoid a collision, but) skidded and crashed into a wall (by the roadside).

“Meanwhile, the car spun around and crashed into a metal barrier.

“The first motorcycle also skidded and plunged into a drain,” Ismail said in a statement, adding that further investigation is being carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama
