IPOH: DAP's Zairil Khir Johari and Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud have finally ended the speculation over their relationship, with an announcement that they will be tying the knot at the end of the year.
Zairil, who is Bukit Bendera member of Parliament Zairil Khir Johari and Dyana, who is a DAP Youth committee member, were engaged in a simple ceremony in Ipoh today.
Zairil, 36, clad in a peach-coloured baju melayu, told media members when met at the Kinta Riverfront Hotel, that he was happy as the engagement ceremony today went smoothly.
"I just want to say that I am very happy, we are all very happy, as are our families and of course this is a private event for both our families.
"We would appreciate it if you can show respect since this is not a public event but at the same time, I thank everyone for coming. For further comments, l will do that another time," he said.
Asked on when the wedding will take place, Zairil said the ceremony is expected to be held at the end of the year.
Rumours on their relationship had been rife when pictures and a video clip of a couple who bore a resemblance to them made its rounds on social media last year.
The photos showed the couple in an intimate situation.
In October 2014, Zairil made headlines when photos of a man, resembling him, being affectionate with a woman, went viral. The woman was said to have resembled Dyana.
Last year, another two video clips emerged, one of a a man being embraced by a woman in a club and the other showing them hugging.
Speculation that they had gotten enggaged escalated went viral on Facebook when a netizen posted a congratulatory message to the pair.
Zairil, a divorced father of two, had previously denied that it was him in the photos.
He described it as an attempt to "malign me with personal attacks" while Dyana said in a Facebook post that it was a personal attack on her. She had said that it was an intrusion on her private life.
